Kyle and June Grady Fund

Purpose

The Kyle and June Grady Fund

The greatest joy in June Grady’s life was raising her son, Kyle, with her husband Keith. Kyle was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma at seven months old. He had one eye removed and underwent several rounds of chemo and radiation. Despite being left legally blind, Kyle had an amazing attitude and approached life with great enthusiasm.

June took great pride in helping Kyle experience everything the world had to offer him. Tragically, as Kyle was undergoing final exams during his first year away at Hope College, he was diagnosed with a sinus sarcoma. He fought bravely for over a year and passed away in August 2012. June was reunited with Kyle when she passed on April 25, 2019. The Kyle and June Grady Fund honors their memory.

(Much of the funding for this fund was provided by Kyle's Bubba, his grandmother, Patti Wetlaufer, 12/10/38 - 4/13/17, who adored her only grandchild.)

Grant Focus

The fund prioritizes grants to Lake County, Indiana, not-for-profit organizations that serve children with visual impairments, with a secondary focus on organizations impacting children from underserved families.

Purpose

Jeff Van Hecke Memorial Scholarship Fund

During Jeff's life, he was a "giver" who touched many lives and many hearts.  He gave of his time and his resources. He gave through his humor and his story telling. He gave from his big, caring heart.

One passion of Jeff's for many years was supporting veterans and their families.  He was very active in the Dyer, Indiana VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post #6448.  Many of the veterans there became like the brothers he didn't have growing up.

On May 14, 2018, Jeff Van Hecke passed away unexpectedly.  Friends and family have started a memorial scholarship in his honor, and we hope you will donate to the fund.

Jeff is survived by Yolanda, his wife of 25 years, and by his son Jonathan.  Jeff was at Jonathan's college graduation only weeks before his death, where he felt so proud of his son.

Jeff lived with integrity and with a big heart for others. He was passionate about his family, his friends, helping and honoring veterans, and much more. We miss him every day and we honor him with this scholarship program.

About the Scholarship

The Jeff Van Hecke Memorial Scholarship will be awarded each year to the child or grandchild of a veteran from VFW Post #6448.

We appreciate your generous donation to establish this scholarship in Jeff's memory. Donations can be made online or by check. Checks should be mailed to Legacy Foundation at 370 E. 84th Drive, Suite 100, Merrillville, IN 46410.

Jeff also leaves behind a young dietary supplement company that he started with his long-time friend and business partner Peter Finkle. You will recognize the mission of the company from Jeff's passion mentioned above.  Peter is carrying on the Vets Vites brand, which has a mission to support groups that help veterans and their families.  You can see more about Jeff and his father Camiel, who served as a Marine in World War II, at the company website www.vetsvites.com.
