Youth Philanthropy Service Grants

Grant amount: $500

To support Youth Philanthropy and Civic Engagement for 6th-12th grade students in Lake County. The goal of these grants is to leverage the strengths of youth to affect change in their communities. These grants will fund projects that support the next generation of philanthropists and civic leaders and provide youth with an opportunity to have their voices heard in order to make meaningful change in their communities.

Examples of applicant organizations include, but are not limited to:

  • educational institutions (including public, private and charter schools)
  • faith-based organizations
  • community-based nonprofits
  • municipal/county youth departments
  • youth clubs and student councils
  • church youth groups (for non-denominational community based activities)

Legacy Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy Service Learning Grants offer youth the opportunity to implement a hands-on service project in Lake County. Service projects can be completed within the classroom or outside of school by students with adult supervision.

Purpose:

  1. Teach youth the importance of philanthropy
  2. Provide education regarding a local challenge, social issue, or current event
  3. Develop social consciousness in youth
  4. Inspire and empower youth to make a difference in their community

In addition to participating in a service project, students will have the opportunity to engage with Legacy Foundation staff during the project to learn about the importance of community philanthropy. A Legacy staff person will attend at least one session of the project and conduct a brief age-appropriate discussion with students participating. Applicants must demonstrate a relationship and commitment to working with youth and government, non-profits, and the community members. Programs should embrace and include diversity and inclusion across multiple dimensions, such as race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.

Funding can be used for supplies, resource materials, or other items directly related to the project. Legacy Foundation will not fund presenter fees or teacher stipends.

Applications are accepted on a rolling deadline.
