The Legacy Foundation will provide sponsorship opportunities of up to $2,000 for community events occurring in Lake County that are hosted by 501(c)3 organizations and government entities that are open to the public and demonstrate a positive community impact.  As the Foundation is committed to strengthening the quality of life of citizens of Lake County, priority will be given to events that:

  • Engage diverse communities across the county and stimulate a large portion of the population to participate
  • Improve the physical and emotional well-being of people of all ages
  • Strengthen the local community through volunteer efforts
  • Have an established sponsorship program and/or outline sponsorship marketing opportunities
  • Represent a unique and unduplicated opportunity for the community
  • Support organizations which deliver effective existing programs to assist or empower underserved or disadvantaged populations
  • Are free
  • Have not received prior consecutive years of funding through a Legacy Foundation sponsorship grant

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.  Organizations must apply at least 6 weeks prior to their event to allow for application review and grant processing.  Failure to do so may result in denial of funding.  Applicants will be notified of their sponsorship awards within one month of submitting their application.  Event sponsorships are limited to one approved request per 12 month period per organization.

All event sponsorship requests must be submitted via our online portal.

The following activities are typically not funded by sponsorships:

  • Fundraisers
  • Pass through events/fundraisers (one group raising funds for another cause)
  • Debt retirement
  • Lobbying or legislative activities
  • Partisan political events, dinners, and fundraisers
  • Scholarships or scholarship programs
  • “Sponsoring” an individual to attend conferences and events
  • “Sponsoring” ongoing programmatic activities (generally events that last more than one week are not considered “events” and become ongoing programs)
  • Expenses incurred before the grant is awarded
  • Efforts substantially serving people outside of Lake County
  • Individual schools are not eligible for direct funding. However, school districts may seek funding for projects that will benefit the entire community
  • Sports teams, leagues, and associated booster or fan group
