United Way of Northwest Indiana Fund

Matching Opportunity Available!

Now is the best time to support United Way of Northwest Indiana. Strack and Van Til will be matching new gifts to the United Way endowment fund, $1-for-$1 up to $50,000.

Your support helps United Way of Northwest Indiana continue service now and later. For every new gift to the endowment fund at Legacy Foundation, Strack and Van Til will match it with a gift to United Way's annual campaign. Gifts to the endowment fund are invested and grow over time, so the organization has a steady source of revenue in perpetuity. The match provided to the annual campaign will help the organization meet immediate needs.

“Thanks to the merger of Lake Area United Way and United Way of Porter County, United Way of Northwest Indiana has a strong legacy of service in Northwest Indiana. That’s why Strack and Van Til has provided this match gift to continue the good work that was begun more than 65 years ago. We’re excited about the future. I encourage you to join us.”
- Jeff Strack, Board Chair, United Way of Northwest Indiana

Hospice of the Calumet Area Endowment Fund

Purpose

This fund provides support to Hospice of the Calumet Area

Hospice of the Calumet Area, a not-for-profit organization, is dedicated to improving the quality of life through compassionate care for individuals and families facing a life-limiting illness.

Staying at home, surrounded by family and friends, free of pain with your symptoms under control, with support for your caregivers – this is what most Americans want for life’s final months. Hospice of the Calumet Area makes it happen.

In order to provide the highest standard of care possible, we employ a dedicated team of professionals that includes physicians, registered nurses, home health aides, social workers, spiritual and bereavement counselors, massage therapists, dieticians, and talented volunteers. This expansive team allows Hospice of the Calumet Area to provide expert medical care as well as emotional and spiritual support for the entire family.

In an effort to expand end-of-life options in our community, Hospice of the Calumet Area does much more than provide hospice services. We are a leader in providing free education and Transitions™ programs, helping families with decisions and support prior to hospice care. Many of these clients eventually chose hospice care and Hospice of the Calumet Area is the only hospice in Northwest Indiana to offer this type of free programming.

Hospice of the Calumet Area is committed to providing extensive grief support to families through our Bereavement programs for at least 13 months after the death of a patient. Beginning with attendance at the funeral visitation, our Bereavement staff develops a plan of follow-up care for each family. These plans include personal visits, telephone calls, newsletters, and mailings. We also provide group support meetings, which are open to all members of the community for those seeking grief related information and services. Hospice of the Calumet Area staff and volunteers attended our patient’s wakes or funerals, providing compassion and support to our patient families as they start the grieving process. Each year, two memorial services are held (fall and spring) for patient families and the community. Families receive a personal invitation to attend these services.

Unlike hospice services, both the Transitions™ and Bereavement programs are not reimbursable through insurance billing. These services are extensive and costly, but both are a vital component of what Hospice of the Calumet Area provides to individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
