Legacy Foundation Helps You Plan Ahead for College

Legacy Foundation partners with The National Center for College Costs to provide first-time undergraduate students with a financial planning tool for college.

The Indiana College Costs Estimator website (ICCE) has a licensed, free tool for all Indiana users that makes financial aid eligibility transparent before the spring of senior year when actual financial aid awards arrive. This service is available at no cost to any Lake County high-school student who is looking to attend a college or university after graduation.

The ICCE is one of only two customized, statewide calculators. Students can get federal, state, institutional merit and need-based institutional financial aid, and link to local scholarship information in all 92 Indiana counties.

After completing the College Costs Estimator, parents and students will receive a form from The National Center for College Costs outlining their financial plan and analysis via e-mail or mail. For students looking to apply for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship at Legacy Foundation—a four-year, full-tuition award—completing the ICCE is required. The College Cost Estimator must be completed by November 15, 2013, to be eligible to apply.

Families that receive reports are invited to attend the College Costs Estimator Workshop located at Merrillville High School in the Freshman Lecture Hall on December 14, 2013, at 10 a.m. to have questions answered about their individual reports and what every student should know about their college expenses.

Other services The National Center for College Costs provides for students are a high school timeline to plan for college, a step-by-step list of the admissions process, webinars where students can ask questions about financial planning about making the transition into college, tips for saving for college, and any additional questions thought up by the student.
