Ethical Standards

Confirmed in compliance with national standards for U.S. community foundations. Legacy Foundation meets National Standards for operational quality, donor service and accountability in the community foundation sector.

The National Standards Seal by our name indicates official confirmation from the Council on Foundations that we have met the most rigorous standards in philanthropy. It affirms our commitment to financial security, transparency and accountability. It says our grantmaking includes an open, competitive process designed to address the changing needs of our community. The National Standards Seal also confirms our history of honoring donors' wishes.

The National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations Program was established in 2000 in cooperation with the Council on Foundations. In 2003, Legacy Foundation passed a resolution to comply with the national Ethical & Operational Standards governing community foundations. In 2004, the Indiana Grantmakers Alliance was awarded reciprocal privileges with our national affiliate, the Council on Foundations in Washington DC.

In 2012 Legacy Foundation was deemed compliant with the standards which include: Governance & Management, Fiscal Administration, Grantmaking, Resource Development, and Community & Public Relations. We currently have on file all documents that support our compliance. Our "approved" record book is on file at the office.
