Weatherhead Repair Assistance Program

Resident Request for Assistance

Legacy Foundation is offering assistance to homeowners whose electrical weatherheads were damaged as a result of the recent storms. The program is designed to help homeowners complete basic electrical repairs needed to address storm-related weatherhead damage and safely restore electrical service.

Eligibility

  • Be the homeowner of a residential property located in the City of Gary, Town of Dyer, Town of Griffith, Town of Merrillville, or unincorporated Lake County.
  • The residential property is your primary residence.
  • The property does not currently have power.
  • You received a NIPSCO notice tag regarding a damaged weatherhead as a result of the recent storm.
  • Have a weatherhead that has not already been repaired or replaced.
  • There are no trees, limbs, or other debris blocking the weatherhead or preventing access to it.
  • Agree to work with a participating electrician assigned through the program.

There is no household income requirement to participate. Assistance is subject to program eligibility, availability of funds, and the repair being within the program’s eligible scope.

What the Program Covers

Program funding may be used for:

  • Basic repairs related to storm-damaged weatherheads;
  • Minor conduit repairs or fixes; and
  • Standard electrical mast and weatherhead replacement.

Legacy Foundation is partnering with licensed and insured electricians to complete eligible repairs, so homeowners do not need to locate or hire an electrician on their own. Program funds will be paid directly to the participating electrician for approved work; no funds will be paid directly to the homeowner.

The program is intended to cover standard repairs necessary to address the storm-related damage. If additional work or code upgrades are required in order to complete the repair, such as an electrical panel upgrade or other improvements beyond the standard weatherhead repair. Those costs will be the responsibility of the homeowner. The participating electrician will discuss any additional required work with the homeowner before proceeding.

The program cannot reimburse homeowners for weatherhead repairs or replacements that have already been completed.
